Memories - Back to the 1940s 2016

Due to popular demand and a rather wet day in October, which mean we could display all the outside attractions we decided to go back to the 1940s again for the saints community project.   Wednesday 11th May was the date chosen and unfortunately as in October we were forecast a rather wet day.

In true 1940s style the show went on and we ensured we had lots of indoor activities to keep everyone entertained.

Lashings of tea was served to the arriving troops and we were reminded of the great sacrifices our service men made over 75 years ago with the help of Churchill.

The day continued in a light hearted fashion with nearly 60 people seated ready to be entertained by the a forces sweetheart Kizzy.   She lifted everyone's spirits with some great sing along a and a little dancing.

The quizzes, crosswords and deciphering of codes proved very popular and certainly proved we still have it.

Lunch was served with a firm staple of wartime cottage pie or a garden salad with our cheese ration and a good lump of national loaf. The bread pudding as always was a great hit and we even managed some eggs for the custard.

The afternoons entertainment commenced and with lots to look at and do to remind us of a great decade. The chocolate and sweet rations were very concerning with most of us eating the months rations in an afternoon. The management crew from Tescos arrived to help serve all the tea and coffee which they donated. Kizzy closed the show for us with some great hits from the decade and as we all packed up our troubles we were reminded that there will Always be an England.

Thank you everyone for another Super Wednesday at the Saints Community project.   Here is to June when we spend a day at the Races time to start looking out those hats and your racing best.

A very special thanks must go to Linda Scarsbrook who arrived with some great games for us to play and donated to our funds and provided a bowls set to ensure the projects success
